Deck Interview Conference Call

If you’re doing one deck interview, you might as well do four – right? This way nobody gets forgotten and I get a little practise in discerning the different voices of my newest decks. Decks interviewed below are:

I’ve attempted to portray their individual voices as best I can, particularly the BoS and Steampunk. While shuffling, the BoS threw jumpers constantly and cards kept falling over in clumps, as if it was just SO EXCITED TO BE HERE it couldn’t control itself. The Steampunk, on the other hand, is as I’ve been warned: a little “frosty” around the edges. It’s not outright bitchy, just blunt and I can absolutely work with that!

The Dreaming Way is calm and steady, though definitely young. Reading with it is like standing on the seashore with a gentle breeze blowing around you – light, airy, fresh. “Dame” Fortune is masculine, as it turns out. Somewhat serious, but approachable; the mature one of the group. He totally reminds me of my dad :)

Now let’s meet the decks!

[1] Hello; thank you for joining me:
7 of Pentacles – VI Beltane – 1 The Magician – V The Pope

Did I make it? I’m so sorry I’m late! I heard you were coming and I had nothing to wear so I had to run out quickly and then there were all these sales and… oh, hello I guess!

OMG I’m so glad to be here! We are going to be best friends – you’ll see, you made the right choice!

*dramatic entrance in a puff of smoke*
*glares menacingly*

Not a problem; I was just doing Pope stuff. You know, bridging the gap between humanity and the Divine. All in a day’s work.

[2] Please describe yourself in a nutshell:
6 of Swords – Element of Water (Nixie) – 2 of Pentacles – IV The Emperor

I’ve come from from far away and although my appearance might be a little unusual, I can speak your language well enough.

I am emotional and unafraid of showing it, so let’s dive right in!

I fly in the face of convention and can will do six impossible things before breakfast. Watch me.

I might be a Dame, but I am a Sir at what I do. The advice I give is solid, if a little old-fashioned. You can call me “Papa”, If you like.

[3] What is your preferred style/type of tarot reading?
6 of Cups – Maiden of Air – 7 of Swords – 8 of Batons

“Whimsy” is my middle name, or is it “Innocence”… I forget. I prefer gentle readings and I have a nostalgic heart… maybe we can talk about your childhood crush sometime.

I like to listen to the birds – they always have new and interesting things to tell me. You can find answers in the most unexpected places! …what were we talking about?

You might not like the answers I give. I have my ways of getting in the back door and exposing your unpleasant secrets. Take it or leave it.

No mucking about. I’ll show you the shortest, fastest route to a solution.

[4] And what do you absolutely have no time for?
8 of Cups – 8 Air (Meditation) – 9 of Cups – Knave of Cups

Big life decisions – don’t ask me to make hard emotional choices!

Ugh, naaa-vel gaaa-zing. You have to trust your heart – spontaneity rules!

If you’re looking for someone to pour you a drink and tell you it’s going to be okay, go somewhere else. This bar is closed.

I don’t have time to go chasing after daydreams and quests. Keep it real.

[5] What important trait of yours isn’t immediately obvious?
6 The Lovers – X Wheel of the Year – Queen of Wands – 6 of Swords

I’m *trying* to make it obvious: 6! I’m good at making true connections; at opening things up when they get too rigid. Also, don’t forget the numerology that went into my creation.

I am changeable. Ask me tomorrow, I might give you a different answer! Don’t let the jokes fool you though – I am quite well-rounded.

I am a regal bitch and don’t forget it. If you want to ride with me, you’d best keep up.

I can help you negotiate the intricate patterns of the mind and am always on the lookout for a willing apprentice for the journey.

[6] How can a reader – myself, specifically – work with you most effectively?
Page of Wands – V Book of Shadows – 9 of Wands – 4 of Coins

Remember that while I am young and lack experience, I am brave and ready for adventure. Perhaps I can help you reconnect with that same spirit inside you?

I am what I am. If you put real time and energy into working with me, I can be your go-to gal.

Don’t come looking for obvious answers; some scrutiny and discernment on your part is going to be needed. Everybody loves a challenge, am I correct?

Keep a balanced outlook and I will share my gifts with you freely. Just ask.

[7] What do you offer in return?
6 of Pentacles – 1 of Fire (Sun) – XXI The World – 9 of Swords

Bountiful return on your investment.

Passion in everything I do and a spark of joyous creativity to keep things interesting!

The world, darling. If you prove yourself, I can show you how all the disparate pieces fit together to make the cogs of the universe turn.

Honesty and clarity like a sword’s edge. A view into the Divine at work in the material world.

[8] Anything you’d like to add in closing?
17 The Star – 2 of Fire (Mercury) – 9 of Pentacles – 8 of Cups

Oh, I’ve got great hopes for the future! I really want to be a helpful, encouraging guide.

I’m really glad we had this chat and I look forward to doing it again SOON!

In case you missed it the first time (peasant), respect. Do you see how I’m balancing this giant bird without breaking a sweat? I will hand you your ass – with a smile.

It was lovely to be invited to participate, but if we’re all done here I’d best get back to work. Bye!

Liking that Steampunk more and more. The As Above is still on the “want” list, too. Not feeling the Dreaming Way yet, it might take some time to make that connection.

Fun idea though, interviewing decks! :)

The Steampunk is very much a “you” deck; you’ll probably work wonders with it (going by your interaction with the Vampyres). Some of the cards in the As Above are so special and I’m a sucker for a modified system. The Dreaming Way is going to be a gentle one, I think. Don’t know how much personal use I’ll get out of it… might have to do a series of free readings with that one (too many things, too little time!)

My As Above doesn’t seem at all like yours. Except for the work-part.

But for the Steampunk …. damn !! Exacly the same.
Mine put me on hold for like 3 months or so ( “Please, come back later, I’m fighting something else, don’t have time for you.” Notice the, there was a please … )
    You’ll have fun.

Oh? How does your As Above behave – is it more of a serious sort?

Yes, the Steampunk seems to be universally regarded as an “independent” type ;) We should write Barbara Moore and ask her just what went into that deck’s creation to make it so assertive!

This is awesome. I really want to do something similar now, since I have a few new decks I’m still trying to get to know (or haven’t even gotten the chance to *look at* yet!).

Dreaming Way reminds me a lot of how the Joie de Vivre reads for me. Pretty sure I was right when I decided I didn’t want the Steampunk tarot. Much too haughty and pretentious for me.

The Zombie is next in line to be interviewed and I still need to do Hello Kitty too. Oh! And the Light Grey. You know you have too many decks when…

See, I can’t read the Joie de Vivre at all, but I can see the similarity there (though I suspect the Joie has sharper teeth.) The Steampunk art is lovely though… you sure? ;D

It’s so weird that the Joie de Vivre is so different for us! For me it’s easy to read, very gentle and fluffy.

The Steampunk *does* have nice art, but that almost makes me like it less, lol. Like, just because you look good doesn’t mean you need to take yourself so seriously, k deck? :P
