Subterranean Homesick Blues

Oh gods, I’m homesick tonight. For the light, the colours, the people… even the shitty bits.

Well, la. 300th post.

That’s a crested barbet and they were regular garden visitors to my family home. They make the most beautiful sound, almost like the gentle gurgling of water. I miss the birds SO much :'( On any given day there would be at least a dozen species in the yard. Not to mention the lounge lizards (sunning, not singing ha ha!), moths, butterflies, praying mantis’, frogs etc. that wandered in and out of the house.

I’ve been back only once, for a family emergency. It is far, and the tickets are $$$ and I have to be able to take a month off work. Getting all those things in order for me AND The Man is tough. BUT – hoping to go in Feb. It’s time, you know?

I hear ya. While I’m not pining for South Africa, I’m feeling a loss… of something… somewhere, somewhen. Having a hard time articulating it which is leading to lots of well-meaning but off-target advice. Hope you’ll get to go home and that it gives you some balm for your soul.
